Polk State Help Center

The Help Center provides free short-term counseling and referrals when additional services are needed. Licensed counselors are available to all Polk State College students. We provide support and resources for a variety of concerns including:

  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Coping with College
  • Eating Disorders
  • Grief and Loss
  • Relationship and Family Issues
  • Sexual Assault
  • Stress Management
  • Suicide Thoughts/Feelings
  • Test Anxiety

Appointments can be scheduled but walk-ins are always welcome. The Lakeland Help Center is located in LTB 1273. To schedule an appointment, call 863-669-2309. The Winter Haven Help Center is located in WAD 178. To schedule an appointment, call 863-292-3759. Faculty who have questions or need more information about the Help Center may contact Kim Pearsall (Lakeland) at extension 6111. Please note: Currently, there is no full-time Counselor in Winter Haven. However, any student needing to speak with a Counselor can call 863-669-2309.

Scheduled appointments are typically 1 hour in length. If you experience an emergency, call 911; for non-emergency calls that require immediate assistance, please call your local crisis center. In West Polk County, call the Peace River Center Crisis Line at (863) 519-3744. In East Polk County, call the Winter Haven Hospital Access Line at (800) 723-3248. Crisis Line counselors are available there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Services provided by the Help Center are confidential in accordance with State and Federal law. Information is not released to anyone without the student’s written permission.
